Abstract

For many centuries, orthodox Christian spirituality flourished in southern Italy. In a broad sense, hesychasm can be interpreted as a method of achieving the goal of the Christian life - theosis.

An extraordinary representative of hesychastic spirituality in southern Italy (Calabria) at the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries was St. Bartholomew of Simeri.
