Autonomous vehicles - selected issues of criminal liability

Abstract

The paper deals with selected issues of criminal liability in connection with the use of autonomous vehicles, especially for traffic offenses. In the paper, the author first defines an autonomous vehicle and distinguishes categories of these cars.

Following this distinction, he deals with the circumstances in which the driver of such a vehicle can be held criminally liable. Furthermore, the author outlines some peculiarities of autonomous vehicles that may affect the assessment of the liability of the driver or manufacturer for the traffic accident.

The author also presents selected foreign case studies.
