The study presented in this paper comes out of the premise that working with data is part of both digital and mathematical literacy and contributes to the development of critical thinking. Work with data represents one of the components that are part of preschool education at the level appropriate to the child's development.
In the study, activities whose aim was recording data and their subsequent use were observed in twelve kindergarten classes. In the subsequent analysis of the observed didactic situations, the effectiveness of use of these activities was assessed.
The presented study builds on two projects from the EU operation programmes OP VVV SC1 and partial research studies in kindergartens conducted in the years 2014-2018. The conclusions point to both the positive aspects of these activities and their pitfalls.
