Abstract

The author analyses the reports of Czech chroniclers about situations in which the Czech ruler provided above-standard assistance to the ruler of the Holy Roman Empire and received a royal title as a reward. These include Vratislaus II, who was thus rewarded by Henry II for his help in the conquest of Rome and achieving the imperial coronation in 1085, Vladislaus II for his assistance to Frederick Barbarossa in his military campaign against Milan in 1158, and Přemysl Otakar I for his support of various pretenders in disputes over the imperial throne in the early 13th century.
