Abstract

Lecture within the series "Pride Month" at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. During the workshop, the audience was introduced to four contemporary German authors with a migration background who represent homosexual identity in their biographical novels.

In addition to typical aspects of migration literature and literature related to coming to terms with one's own different sexual orientation/identity, we focused on the countries of origin of the selected authors, namely the former Yugoslavia, the former USSR, Sri Lanka and Turkey. Stereotypes, traditions and customs, family concepts and patriarchal perceptions of society were discussed, which greatly influence the protagonists of the selected novels.

Migration and homosexuality are two major phenomena in literature, the combination of which is not only about coming to terms with one's own sexual orientation, but it is the migration background that plays a very significant role in the development of the characters.
