Places with secrets in the work of Otfried Preußler

Abstract

The paper examines the space in Otfried Preußler's The Sorcerer's Apprentice. The focus is on the area of the forest, the mill and the village.

The text is mainly based on theoretical statements and Daniela Hodrová's book Places with Secrets (1994) and the collective monograph Poetics of Places: Chapters from Literary Thematology (1997). Preußler's genre, places and plot are closely connected.

The study demonstrates that the mentioned places can also be understood as metaphors for certain ways of perception and attitudes towards the world.
