The working majority and the climate crisis

Abstract

A workshop on the development of environmental movements in relation to the working majority. Some trade unions and many workers see the European Green Deal project as a threat to their existential interests.

However, part of the environmental movement is trying to show that environmental demands are not in conflict with the demands of the working majority and emphasise a socially just transition to a green economy. The workshop addressed the notion of degrowth, ecosocialism and the issue of the social agent who can become the vehicle for a just transition to a green economy.

The workshop featured presentations by philosopher Michael Hauser, environmental theorist and politician Petra Jelínková and sociologist Ondřej Lánský.
