The environmental movements and the working majority: a strategy for convergence

Abstract

In my lecture I pointed out the problem of misunderstanding and miscommunication between environmental movements and the majority society, using the example of the protests of the "Last Generation" movement. I summarised the arguments put forward by Matt Huber justifying that the transition to a green economy is in the existential interests of the working majority.

I proposed strategic approaches to converging environmentalism and the working majority. One of these is to replace the notion of degrowth with the notion of multidimensional development.

Another is to rethink nuclear energy, which, according to scientific analyses, is an irreplaceable energy source in the transition to carbon-free energy production. I have mentioned today's research into new technologies, especially modular nuclear microreactors and fusion reactors.
