Abstract
Main aim of the presentation is to link discussions about the legitimacy of sanctions adopted for violations of the norms of international law with the more general issues of sanctioning and coercion as important features of a functioning legal systems. After presenting basic issues to coercive nature and sanctions in law (by Austin, Hart, Schauer etc.) an assessment about the force of international law is made.
