Biographical dictionary entry of the historian who worked at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague from 1851 to 1882, where he founded the historical seminar. As a native German, Höfler (1811-1897) was also involved in the association and professional activities of Prague Germans and was politically active as a member of the Czech Provincial Assembly and later as a life member of the Imperial Council in Vienna.
His bibliography also includes a number of works on Czech medieval history.
