Abstract
The speech introduces the concept of language awakening and the publications Going to Foreign Languages 1 and 2, recently published by the NPI CR as an inspiration for teachers to develop the language skills of (not only) younger pupils. The aim is to show that language propedeutics can help to kick-start pupils' later language skills and their relationship to languages in general, which significantly supports the position of foreign language teaching in the Czech Republic.
