Abstract

This study aims to reflect on the contemporary position of Czech theatre historiography in the context of the cultural turn in humanities and raise the following questions: How can the movements in foreign theatre historiography inspire the conception of novel historiographical interpretations? What methods to use in research on historical phenomena? Into what thematic and territorial frameworks to contextualize historical reflections? How to reflect on the dynamics of historical memory, the culture of remembrance, or intentional "forgetting"? And should our vocabulary change? The study outlines the inherent encounter between the peripheral status of a theatrologist defending the autonomy and specificity of the discipline, who is continuously stimulated by external impulses, and a researcher naturally oriented towards the interdisciplinary milieu, who understands theatre culture primarily in relation to social developments.
