Abstract

Vitamin B12 also known as cyanocobalamin is a water-soluble vitamin involved in metabolism. Vitamin B12 is required fof growth, cell reproduction and energy, healthy red blood cell formation and normal neurological function and maintanance of the CNS.

Foods containing vitamin B12 include meat, clams, liver, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy producnts. The vitamin B12 content in the newborn is low, and the infant is dependnet on breast milk for ongoing needs.
