Cancer care has been revolutionized by PD-L1/PD-1 immunotherapies which have been approved for multiple cancers. Current thinking is that the underlying mechanism of the tumor immune reaction escape is caused by high expression of Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1, alias CD274) protein and further facilitated by Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) signal transducer as both proteins are overexpressed due to 9p24.1 amplification.

By analyzing the genomic neighborhood of the PD-L1 gene, weaimed to identify other oncogenes mapping to the 9p24.1 locus that may play a role in cancers characterized by PD-L1 gene copy number alterations (CNA).
