John Locke: Natural Rights and the Order of Reason

Abstract

The chapter explores the political thought of John Locke in the contexts of both contemporaneous political developments in England and Locke's philosophical oeuvre. It focusses mostly on Locke's concept of the law of nature and the role of reason in both Locke's political theory and epistemology. The chapter also provides an overview of the historical development of the reception of Locke's political thought.
