Jaroslav Pščolka (1921-2008): writer and diplomat

Abstract

The study maps the life path of the Czech Republic. diplomat Jaroslav Pščolka (1921-2008) and mainly follows his literary activities, the beginnings of which are connected with his studies at the gymnasium in Orlová and Opava. In the years 1936-1938, he published a series of prose in the "Student magazine" and the magazine of left-oriented high school students "Mladé Ostravsko", which revealed his literary talent.

At the same time, he co-edited the magazine "Mladé Ostravsko". Although the period of occupation interrupted his promising literary activity, he retained his interest in literature and art throughout his life and applied it also during his diplomatic career.

It culminated in the 1960s, when he held the posts of ambassador to Argentina and ambassador to Cuba. The study attempts to capture Pščolka's hitherto unknown literary activities, it also uses unique memoirs that Pščolka wrote at the end of his life and other sources from his family archive.
