Abstract

Macroglossia is generally refers to severe painless enlargement of the tongue which can be caused by a wide variety of congenital and acquired conditions. Tongue enlargement can cause cosmetic and functional difficulties in speaking, eating, swallowing and sleeping.

A tongue that constantly protrudes from the mouth is vulerable to drying out, ulceration, infection or even necrosis, complete airway obstruction may occur.
