On 20 February 2023, the research centre "Ukraine in a Changing Europe" is launched at the Institute of International Studies. The new centre operates at the intersection of humanities and social sciences to enforce academic expertise on contemporary Ukraine to be implemented in the teaching process and beyond. Two main objectives define the thematic scope of the centre's work: 1)de-centreing / de-colonizing knowledge production on Eastern Europe through disentangling Ukrainian Studies from Russia-centered Area Studies to provide more space for local voices, manifold agencies, and indigenous interpretations; 2)placing the recent Ukrainian developments in a broader context to expose their implications for the future of democracy, European project, and the world order, more generally.
The Centre's leader is Dr. Valeria Korablyova, Assistant Professor at the Department of
Russian and East European Studies. Its institutional partners in Ukraine are National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy" and Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv that will be represented at the public opening on 20 February 2023.
