Abstract

This paper presents a study that aimed to map the prerequisites for the development of arithmetic skills in younger school-age pupils. Respondents performed tasks focusing on executive functions, spatial abilities, and estimation and symbolic quantity.

First results indicate a close relationship between the speed of symbolizing quantities and the level of arithmetic skills. Working memory appears to be another important factor for the development of numeracy skills.
