Teacher's guide to the "Eco-alphabet 5th grade: Waste Issues"

Publication

Abstract

The methodology guides teachers through the textbook "Ecoabeceda V. class: Waste Issues" for pupils of the 5th grade of the 1st level of primary schools. The issue of waste is covered in all Framework Education Programmes, from pre-school to secondary education.

The topic therefore needs to be thought through and structured to avoid demotivation due to repetitive and boring lessons. In our concept, pupils in Grade 1 are introduced to model situations of dealing with a) solid household waste, which they can directly influence, e.g. dealing with uneaten snacks, excrements of their pets, clothes they have outgrown, etc., b) water conservation issues, i.e. waste that should not be poured into spouts.

Both the methodological manual and the textbook are electronic books (e-books). They are based on the theory of neo-behaviourism, or ABA learning (Applied Behavioural Analysis) and modern programme learning.

They contain a variety of different interactive and gamification elements and allow for self-directed learning. Teachers are introduced to the theoretical underpinnings and are guided through each chapter of the textbook in turn to make the most effective use of it.
