The Themes of Home and Hospitality in the Poetry of Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh

Abstrakt

This essay explores the work of one of the leading contemporary Irish-language poets, Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh. Focussing on her 2022 collection Tonn Teaspaigh and its prevalent themes of motherhood, hospitality and care, the essay argues that Ní Ghearbhuigh's poems, which foreground the conflicting emotions and responsibilities associated with mothering, offer an original ethic of care.
