Decompression event after a recreational dive without planned decompression

Abstract

We present the case report of a young, still healthy sports diver, who developed a so-called unexpected decompression event despite observing all the rules of a safe no-decompression dive. Its cause was a persistent foramen ovale (PFO).

In the discussion, we open the question of the possibilities of prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
