Current challenges in institutional education for adolescent girls

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2023

Abstract

The contribution will reflect the long-term experience of a psychologist working with teenage girls in a diagnostic institute. We will focus on the issue of the need to respond to changes in the reasons and circumstances under which girls are placed in facilities, what problems they are troubled by, what we can offer them and how to support them in their further development.

We will take a look at what we consider to be success in our work and name the limits of the often involuntary cooperation. We will discuss sensitive areas of the current system with regard to the often associated psychiatric anamnesis of female clients, identify protective factors and the therapeutic potential of psychological work with girls and their families.
