At the last minute: The necessity of recontextualising geography in education

Abstract

The main aim of this article is twofold. Firstly, it aims to discuss the need for recontextualising geography in education.

The paper reflects on the currently prevailing descriptive and encyclopaedic conceptions of geographical education and emphasises the necessity to recontextualise the discipline of geography into Czech schools. The second aim of the article is to summarize the enormous potential of geography education in nowadays world and to frame it within the expected educational outcomes of binding curricular documents and currently undergoing revisions.

In the last part, the concept of geographical thinking is being suggested as a means that both connects geographical education's contributions and also helps with the process of recontextualising geography in education.
