The Czech and Slovak central banks at the time of their establishment - a brief comparison of the legislative establishment

Abstract

The paper compares the legal anchoring of the Czech and the Slovak central banks. Both central banks were established on the date of the establishment of the new states, i. e. on 1st January 1993 - the Czech National Bank on the basis of the Constitution of the Czech Republic (Act No. 1/1993 Sb.) and Act No. 6/1993 Sb., on the Czech National Bank, and the National Bank of Slovakia on the basis of the Constitution of the Slovak Republic (Act No. 460/1992 Zb.) and Act No. 566/1992 Zb.,on the National Bank of Slovakia.

The predecessor of both central banks was the State Bank of Czechoslovakia (Štátna banka česko-slovenská), which was governed by Act No 130/1989 Sb. from 1 January 1990 and Act No 22/1992 Sb. from 1 February 1992 to 31 December 1992.
