Abstract
The monograph deals with the competencies and work activities of the secondary school principal. Since 2003, the acquisition of legal subjectivity of Czech schools has strengthened their autonomy in the legal and economic spheres, and since 2005, with the introduction of framework educational programmes for individual levels of education, also in the pedagogical sphere.
Currently, the degree of school autonomy in the Czech Republic is the highest in comparison with other European countries. The role of the headmaster in the school is, for example, that of a lawyer, economist, controller, planner, etc.
Above all, he or she should be a pedagogical leader, which follows from one of the objectives of the Strategy for the Czech Republic's Education Policy 2030+.
