This paper offers a brief introduction and analysis of Greek and Roman mythology, one of the most popular Classics courses. Greek mythology is presented through the works of Hesiod.

The myth of Prometheus functions as a case study in how one can interpret Greek myth. After an overview of Greek gods and their myths, the paper focuses on Roman mythology and its relationship to Roman history.

The Roman gods and their myths are less known than Greek but deserve exploration on their own. The myth of Romulus and Remus is analysed as a case study.

Finally, a few local myths of the city of Rome show that the environment played a great role in the making of Roman mythology.
