Abstract

This article delineates some examples of the appearance of New Jerusalem in imaginative literature, including Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Antony and Cleopatra, William Blake, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Emily Dickinson, Thomas Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 49, Gore Vidal's Live from Golgotha, and poetry from the German Romantic poets, Carl Joachim Friedrich Ludwig Achim von Arnim and Clemens Wenzeslaus Brentano.
