Cicero as the Author of a Didactic Text

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2023

Abstract

The paper examines Cicero's Partitiones oratoriae from the perspective of modern textbook theory, specifically from the perspective of the so-called "learning potentiality". It presents a series of 36 components, by means of which the learning potentiality of an educational medium is evaluated.

The paper includes a selection of excerpts that represent these components. In some cases, the definition of components has to be modified to fit the specificities of the ancient text.

In the end, it turns out that Cicero's text achieves comparable results to some modern established textbooks.
