Abstract
Following the current scholarship, the article summarizes the basic data on the life of Tacitus, his literary works and their manuscript tradition, the so-called Jewish Excursus, Tacitus' mentions of Jesus and Christianity, and the occurrence of Tacitus and his works in later tradition.
