Czech-Vietnamese young adults face many challenges and stigmatization in culture, society and education. This case study examines how applied theatre can serve as a dynamic platform for performers and audiences to address these issues. Drawing on the rich tradition of documentary theatre applied in a curricular context, it describes how young adults amplified their voices through theatre creation, performances and post-performance workshops, shedding light on their unique perspectives and on the stigmas they may encounter.

The case study presents some documentary theatre and drama strategies that have proven effective in empowering young members of the Czech-Vietnamese community and high school students to shift their perceptions of and attitudes to possible stigmatization.

Sharing the findings of this case study will hopefully inspire educators, artists and advocates of social change to consider the transformative potential of performance art in their efforts to address and combat social stigma.
