Granulomatous mastitis is a rare benign inflammatory disease of the breast without known etiopathogenesis. The occurrence of this disease is mainly in women of reproductive age, where treatment is limited by the possibility of conception.
The issue includes the main difficulties with diagnosis and correct setting of treatment. Treatment options for granulomatous mastitis include corticosteroids, antibiotics, drainage of a potential abscess, wide surgical resection, and even mastectomy.
When therapy fails, immunosuppressants (methotrexate, colchicine) are used. The treatment of granulomatous mastitis requires intensive interdisciplinary cooperation.
