Abstract

Between 2012 and 2017, the distribution of the common dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius) was studied in selected mapping grids of the Czech Republic by the company Zamenis. The essential methods used were installing artificial nest tubes and collection of gnawed hazelnuts. Both methods proved to be functional and effective.

The presence of the species was ascertained in 137 localities, covering 102 fields of the KFME mapping grid; for 36 of the fields it was the first record of the species. A detailed list of all records is given in the text. The efficiency of the monitoring methods used, factors influencing the presence of the species, as well as possible threats are also discussed.
