Abstrakt
This chapter provides an introduction to media education, which is defined as a multi- and interdisciplinary field that focuses both theoretically and empirically on the media behaviour of children, young people and adults and the associated educational challenges. At the centre of media education is the development of concepts for the promotion of media literacy.
This chapter provides an overview of key approaches and their historical development as well as current challenges in media education. Further, it explains the concept of media literacy.
