Abstract
The text follows the depiction of beer in selected Czech films (Adéla ještě nevečeřela, Postřižiny, Schmitke, Díra u Hanušovic and Mistři). It focuses on the role of beer and the cinematic means used to portray it.
The formal analysis of beer scenes allows us to underline the less obvious construction of the communicated content of individual films, to trace their affectivity and effect on the human senses. Since beer is perceived as a national drink, the analysis also reveals the filmmakers' approach to the image of Czech identity, which has changed significantly over time (and the official direction of cinema).
