Abstract

The methodology presented here, focusing on the use of place-based learning (PLL) in the subject of Civics and Social Studies for secondary school students, has been developed to provide a structured and coherent framework for the implementation of PLL in the teaching of secondary schools, particularly grammar schools. Place-based learning is a pedagogical concept that aims to link educational theory with practical experience in a specific local setting.

This creates the basis for a deeper and sustainable understanding of the curriculum and its application in real life. This methodology has been designed for a full term of the school year of the second year of secondary school, which corresponds to a weekly allocation of two hours in the subject of civic and social studies.

Each week is devoted to one specific topic, through two parts. The first part (2 hours) is devoted to the theoretical background and basics of the topic, while the second part (2 hours) focuses on practical MoU activities related to the topic, carried out in the real environment of a selected urban district in Prague.
