The present work is focused on the yield behaviour in dilute Mg-Zn-Y alloy prepared by the rapidly solidified ribbon consolidation technique. This processing method results in ultrafine-grained microstructure (average grain size below 1 mu m) with Zn-and Y-rich stacking faults segregated in the basal planes.

Despite the high yield strength and moderate elongation, a pronounced yield point phenomenon is observed during tensile loading at room temperature. The global and local microstructural changes, leading to the appearance of the upper and lower yield points, are highlighted by advanced image techniques and post-processing data analysis.
