The study is focused on Jaroslav Bidlo, a professor of general history, and his relation to Zdeněk Kalista, formerly a pupil of Josef Pekař who was Bidlo's personal enemy. The article attempts to show to what extent the hostility between the first generation of Goll's pupils influenced Kalista's life story.
It futhermore follows Kalista's relation to Bidlo's disciples Milada Paulová and Josef Macůrek who were, such as Kalista, assistants at a historical seminar at the beginning of their careers.
