Abstract
The conference paper deals with the sponsorship and support of young Greek athletes. It discusses the relationship between sponsors, athletes, games and physical education in the ancient world, Greece, the individual Greek poleis and Rome.
The sponsorship of games and buildings at Panhellenic shrines, and sponsoring of gifted athletes became an important activity of prominent persons in the ancient world at the time.
