The focus of the symposium was on the early medieval sacred buildings in Scandinavia and Central Europe. Various aspects of their symbolic dimensions and functions at the time of beginnings of Christianity intertwined with remains of paganism were discussed as well as other aspects of the late paganism and emerging Christianity in this region. Additionally, the purpose of the symposium was to draw attention to the fact that a unique monument of an early Scandinavian art is located on the territory of today's Poland close to Czech border what many experts seem to overlook.
