Abstract

Pravoslav Rada (November 14, 1923, Železný Brod - April 23, 2011, Prague) was a sculptor, ceramist, designer, author of professional publications, co-organizer of international ceramic symposia and exhibitions and teacher. He is one of the leading personalities of Czechoslovak post-war art and innovators in the field of ceramics and ceramic sculpture, both free and applied.

Pravoslav Rada's work, unique in the Czech (Czechoslovak) context, has been presented many times in exhibitions and partial catalogues. The last time it was presented comprehensively was with an exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts Rada Parada in 2011. Pravoslav Rada did not live to see the end of the exhibition, for which unfortunately no critical monograph of the artist's work was prepared, although it would have been adequate, necessary and meritorious.

The Pravoslav Rada monograph was published by the South Bohemian Gallery on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the artist's birthday. The fully Czech-English publication is structured both chronologically and thematically. It presents a comprehensive treatment of the free and applied works of Pravoslav Rada, including an inventory of works in architecture (mostly realized in collaboration with Jindřiška Radová), it also focuses on Rada's publishing and popularization activities in the field of ceramic techniques and, of course, on his organizational activities.
