The article presents a pedagogical survey examining the functionality of a methodological proposal contained in the author's dissertation. This methodological proposal offers one of the possible keys to functionally connect the sphere of classical and popular music in general music education classes at upper-secondary schools (or in the highest grades of primary schools).
The supporting link here is a strong real-life story (in this case, the story of Jan Palach) and music from both spheres that reacts to the story (e.g. Václav Neckář's song and Jan Hanuš's cantata).
This study will be followed up in the next issue by a text presenting specific methodical and didactic inspirations and ideas for activities in lessons.
