Simple experiments in physics education: will they survive 20xx?

Abstract

Simple experiments have been used in physics education since time immemorial. But can they compete today with the attractive offers that flood in from the web, social media and other sources - or are they "endangered species"? The aim of this paper is to show and summarize the reasons why it is reasonable to believe that simple experiments will survive into the future.

The experiments that illustrate this are mostly familiar - but the paper attempts to offer sometimes slightly new perspectives on the issue.
