Abstract
In this chapter, we provide an overview of historical context regarding the formation of the image of the periphery, how it was shaped by French intellectuals (André Breton, Michel Leiris, Albert Camus, Jean-Paul Sartre), and how this image was imagined by intellectuals coming from the periphery to the center (Aimé Césaire, René Maran, Albert Memmi, Frantz Fanon).
