Abstract

Xerostomia is a frequent and sometimes lifelong complication in patients after radiotherapy of the oral cavity, but it can also may accompany, for example, chemotherapy, targeted treatment or opioids use. Keeping the mucous membranes moist, regular hygiene of the teeth and oral cavity is a must.

There is a high risk of rapidly progressing tooth decay and increased incidence of candidiasis. Regular check-ups and care by dentists and dental hygienists are necessary.
