Treatment with an insulin pump is now considered the standard of care for type 1 diabetes mellitus. But does it make sense to consider it also in patients with type 2 diabetes? The first part of the article presents the most significant available data regarding the benefit of insulin pump treatment in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Next part is devoted to specific groups of patients who can benefit from this treatment, and the results of "simple" pumps, developed specifically for the needs of these patients. In conclusion, the article briefly summarizes the situation in the Czech Republic, including a list of available insulin pumps and indication criteria.
