Abstract
The article analyses the development of normative definitions and theoretical doctrines in regard of the status of religious order and their members in the legal system which applied in the territory of the today s Czech Republic since the end of the 18th century till the beginning of the 21st century. The analysis is a reaction to the discussion occurring in modern civilian literature on the nature of the legal personality of churches and religious associations in the Czech legal order.
