Abstract
The publication represents a guide for current common diagnostic, operative and percutaneous techniques used in creating and maintaining access for dialysis. The first part of the text brings detailed information on the planning of vascular access, the specialized technical skills necessary for successful operations.
Subsequent chapters provide fundamental knowledge of care of the vascular access, the importance of surveillance and the role of interventional percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting, as well as creating endovascular AV fistula (endoAVF). Additional chapter is covering non-standard vascular access, including hemodialysis reliable outflow (HeRO) graft.
The second edition of the textbook Vascular Access for Dialysis has been modified and updated. The book comprises thirteen chapters, new authors are discussing thrombophilia, infection, neuropathic syndromes, and pharmacological approaches to preventing vascular access failure.
Special attention was paid to point--of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and its implementation in practice of nephrology. To create a good arteriovenous access and maintain it over time is a target of vascular access team.
The authors have focused on all members of vascular access team who care for patients with end-stage renal disease: surgeons in training, clinically active nephrologists and fellows, interventional radiologists, sonographists, dialysis nurses and technicians.
