We live in a world not only of direct (inverse) proportionality: very simple physical measurements and various mathematical functions

Abstract

Physics and mathematics education can be combined in various ways at lower and upper secondary schools. The paper provides six particular learning activities which demonstrate that the world around us is far from only governed by direct or inverse proportionality, i.e. that the slogan "how many times bigger ... so many times bigger/smaller" cannot always be used to describe physical processes.

The activities connect simple physical measurements with easy, but the same time essential reflections on the measured data.
