Abstract
The article introduces the reader to modern magnesium-based materials, which can be considered as the materials of the future. In addition to a brief history of the discovery of magnesium and its use by mankind, the basic types of magnesium-based materials are briefly discussed.
The second part of the paper discusses some of the results obtained by the authors in their research on magnesium matrix nanocomposites, a typical example of advanced magnesium materials with interesting mechanical and physical properties.
